Located on one of the busiest streets in the Plateau, Le Barraca stands out as a go to place for rum and tapas lovers. Although smallish in size, Le Barraca impresses with its simple yet delicious tapas menu and wide variety of rum. They carry rum from 18 (18!) different countries – enough to make everyone happy. We recommend the El Dorado 12 AND/or 15 year from Guyana (South America), a little pricey but damn it’s good! You should also try Havana Club 15 year Reserva (Cuba) and any of the Flor de Cana rums from Nicaragua.
The bartenders make great drinks, the mojitos are delicious and they have a few varieties – look out for deals on certain nights/ 5 à 7. As for the tapas, try one of the taster platters to experience a little bit of everything, can’t complain about anything that I tried. The service can at times be a little slow if its really busy, the place is small so it makes it tough for them to move around. that being said, I’ve never experienced any problems there.
Also, you might have a hard time finding a seat…again, it’s a busy place! If it’s busy inside, check out their terrace out back and you might be able to snag a spot (not recommended in winter…obviously.). While you’re waiting for a seat, grab a drink at the bar and listen to the DJ spin some solid music. Overall, Le Barraca has a very cozy, warm, and inviting atmosphere, great for dates and hanging out with some friends. They’ve been around for over ten years and there’s a real local vibe going on. Definitely worth checking out!
